Matty Sheets

For Matty Sheets, music is medicine. Based in Greensboro, NC, he has been been playing guitar, bass, and drums for over 20 years. From North Carolina to Texas and up to New York, Sheets has written hundreds of songs and recorded 7 albums. As the host of numerous open mics and songwriting circles, Sheets has a lot of feel-goods in his bag.

As a child, Sheets said he loved to draw with dreams of becoming a comic book artist. When he was about 9 years old, his father told him he needed to get serious and do something else or he’d be a starving artist—Sheets was fine with that, and shortly after, started playing music. He said he rediscovered drawing as an adult in 2016, after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis during a nervous breakdown he didn’t know he was having.

Sheets wasn’t going to let his M.S. take over his life, so has recently begun a transition to writing and performing on Ukulele. He describes Music as his M.S. free zone, and the instrument has allowed him to be able to perform without the limitations of his diagnosis. His full length Ukulele album is currently in post production, and is slated for release in early 2023.
